Pokémon GO: December Schedule of Events

Niantic has announced the upcoming December Schedule of events.

Research Breakthrough

December 1st to January 1st either Lapras or Unovan Darumaka will be the reward in Research Breakthrough encounters, and catching either will reward bonus XP.

Raids

Legendary 5 Star Raids

Each week in December, there’ll be a Raid Hour event on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. local time featuring that week’s Legendary Raid Boss in five-star raids.

Mega Raids

Update 11/27/2020

Niantic has updated details regarding Mega Raids. Mega Blastoise, Mega Charizard Y, Mega Pidgeot, and Mega Houndoom will all be leaving Mega Raids. Mega Raids will only be featuring Mega Charizard X, Mega Gengar and Mega Abomasnow starting December 1st.
  • December 1st: Mega Abomasnow will be replacing Mega Blastoise.
    • Mega Blastoise will be appearing more frequently in Mega Raids until December 1st.

Normal Raids

Update 11/30/2020

Niantic teased over the last few days a new Pokémon coming to 1 Star Raids as part of the GO Beyond Event, and revealed the Pokémon will be Espurr.

Pokémon Spotlight Hours

Pokémon Spotlight Hour will take place every Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. local time, and each hour will spotlight a different Pokémon and special bonus.

  • December 1st: Seel and 2x XP for evolving Pokémon.
  • December 8th: Swinub and 2x Stardust for catching Pokémon.
  • December 15th: Explorer Hat Pikachu and 2x Candy for catching Pokémon.
  • December 22nd: Snorunt and 2x Candy for transferring Pokémon.
  • December 29th: Snover and 2x XP for evolving Pokémon.

Other Updates

  • Pokémon tagging will allow you to create different colored tags, apply them to Pokémon, and use them to filter your Pokémon.
  • The Pokémon search function will be updated so when you tap into the search bar, a new screen will appear with recommended search terms, such as Pokémon Type, Region, Buddy Level, Shiny, and more.
