Cover & Solicit 4/5

  • Cover: Jorge Corona

Art, Colors & Inking 4/5

This series is drawn by Jorge Corona (Teen Titans Go!, Batman Beyond). I liked the art style, it has a smooth cartoon style going for it. My only complaint isn't with his style but that it really doesn't fit the genre of the comic. I would associate it more with fun an adventurous not demonic and creepy. Then again it's still the first issue so that could be the vibe they are going for.

Layout & Flow 4/5

For a first issue they did a good job with pacing. It was easy to follow and Jorge's art flows nicely from panel to panel. I also liked how Jorge changed his coloring style during the flashbacks to help with pacing.

Story 4/5

The series is written by Jacob Semahn (Ultimate Spider-Man). I haven't read anything by him but was excited from the solicit and preview art to check this book out. The issue starts with two kids watching a news broadcast of a group of paranormal investigators. It isn't long before the normal news broadcast turns into a horror movie. Jacob does a great job with bouncing back and forth between the past and the present showing bits and pieces of the kids, who I will assume will be our protagonists of the story. It turns out the paranormal investigators are the kids parents and are killed in the line of duty. Now it's up to the police, the uncle, and the kids to unravel the mystery involving their family.

Verdict - 4 (8/10) - (Buy Goners) SAVE 10%

I enjoyed this issue. From the solicit alone I knew it was going to be a fun ride. The art by Jorge Corona and story by Jacob Semahn are almost perfect. They do an excellent job in this first issue getting the scene setup for what's about to come. If you are looking for a fun horror mystery check out Goners #1.
