Wacky Wizard Games Imprint and Three New Games Announced by @wwizardgames

Image
Wise Wizard Games announced the launch of Wacky Wizard Games, a new brand imprint focused on family-friendly, lightweight games. Three games are planned for release in 2024 as part of this new brand imprint: Star Realms Academy, Caution Signs, and Pack the Essentials. If you are interested and attending PAX Unplugged they will have prototypes of Caution Signs and Pack the Essentials. "We are super excited to be adding this new family friendly product line to our catalog. We wanted to maintain the focus of Wise Wizard Games on strategy card and dice games with geeky themes, and have created Wacky Wizard Games as an umbrella for lightweight games with a more whimsical, cute vibe," shared Debbie Moynihan, COO of Wise Wizard Games. Star Realms Academy Forge your own star realms, overloaded with cuteness! A kid friendly but still fun for grown-ups version of the popular Star Realms deckbuilding game for 2 players. A little less math, no reading necessary, but still tons of fun!

#WhatsNext @ImageComics Announcements for the week of 4/11/2014 @SkyboundEnt

Welcome to a new feature on the site. I was recently added to Image's Press Release list so each Friday I will be posting a roundup of the announcements from Image Comics and it's imprints from the past week. There will probably be a late day update if anything new gets announced Friday.

This week Image Comics announced; THE UGLIEST KID ON EARTH TAKES ON SATAN… AND PBS?, IT'S SPREADING..., SHUTTER SELLS OUT IN A SNAP, SATELLITE SAM JUST GOT DIRTIER, THE FRONTIER IS A LANDSCAPE OF HORROR IN MANIFEST DESTINY, HACK/SLASH RETURNS WITH ALL-NEW STORY ARC, and LOW RELEASE DATE AND EARLY ARTWORK REVEALED.

THE UGLIEST KID ON EARTH TAKES ON SATAN… AND PBS?

Larry King writes introduction to comic book comedy sensation

Debuting in 2013, TODD, THE UGLIEST KID ON EARTH introduced the world to a happy-go-lucky kid who remains cheerful in a world designed to crush his spirit. In the first volume of this dark humor hit by Eisner Award-nominated artist MK Perker (Air, The Unwritten) and writer Ken Kristensen (The Amazing Adventures of The Escapist, Indestructible), Todd took on an axe-murderer. In volume two, due out in May, Todd confronts something even darker: the unholy intersection of comic book conventions, public television, and paranormal investigation — a conspiracy that literally goes as deep as the dark abyss of Hell.

"The survival of PBS in American culture has always been difficult to explain," said writer Kristensen. "A television network with high artistic standards, educational programming, and a ratings juggernaut in Downton Abbey? Clearly they've made a deal with the devil — and Todd, the Ugliest Kid on Earth will unearth the ugly truth."

TODD, THE UGLIEST KID ON EARTH VOLUME 2 features an introduction by news talk titan Larry King (yes, that Larry King!). It will be in comic book stores on May 7 and bookstores on May 20.

IT'S SPREADING...

Not much information was given about this announcement we are only left with the following image;

SHUTTER SELLS OUT IN A SNAP

The first issue of the new fantasy adventure series gets camera-ready for second printing

The first issue of the new Image Comics urban fantasy series SHUTTER, written by Joe Keatinge (GLORY, TECH JACKET) and drawn by Leila del Duca has already garnered critical acclaim and sold out at the distributor level.

In SHUTTER #1, Kate Kristopher, once the most famous explorer of an Earth far more fantastic than the one we know, is forced to return to the adventurous life she left behind when a family secret threatens to destroy everything she spent her life protecting.

SHUTTER #1 has completely sold out at the distributor level, but may still be available in comic stores. It is currently available digitally on the Image Comics website (imagecomics.com) and the official Image Comics iOS app, as well as on Comixology on the web (comixology.com), iOS, Android, and Google Play.

Image Comics is pleased to announce that this third issue will be going back to print to meet customer demand. The second printing of SHUTTER #1 (Diamond Code FEB148399) will release on 5/14.

SHUTTER #2 releases 5/14 as well and will be available for pre-order with Diamond Code MAR140596. A variant cover featuring art by Piotr Kowalski will be available for pre-order with Diamond Code MAR140597.

SATELLITE SAM JUST GOT DIRTIER

Issue #8 incentive woos retailers with FREE Tijuana Bible

The dark and raunchy SATELLITE SAM turns up the heat with retailers by offering a scandalous new incentive comic stores won’t be able to resist. Retailers who order ten or more copies of SATELLITE SAM #8 will be able to indulge in the SATELLITE SAM TIJUANA BIBLE—free!

In the spirit of Great Depression-era Tijuana Bibles, SATELLITE SAM indulges in the explicit and the definitively adults only content in the format of those classic and illegal bootleg comics—at the same time the cast of SATELLITE SAM #8 receive it themselves.

When asked to comment on the TIJUANA BIBLE, Chaykin said evasively: “Actually, as I recall this was Matt's idea—I just got innocently sucked into a maelstrom of filth.”

Fraction however, had a different take: “I have long-dreamed of producing a piece of filth with Howard Victor Chaykin, my number-one international pornographer of choice,” he began. “That we had a place in Satellite Sam where a classic Tijuana Bible could appear in both story and the real world as a special (‘special’) thank you to retailers and readers that are on this dark little journey with us was the cherry on top.”

“A perfect combination of (sort of) youthful integrity and (young) elder opportunism,” quipped Chaykin.

SATELLITE SAM #8, featuring the TIJUANA BIBLE as a story point, arrives in stores on 5/7, and will be available for $3.50. It can be pre-ordered with Diamond Code FEB140626. Retailers who order 10 or more copies of SATELLITE SAM #8 will receive 10 copies of the SATELLITE SAM TIJUANA BIBLE for free.

SATELLITE SAM #7 (Diamond Code JAN140613) is available now to order.

SATELLITE SAM, VOL. 1 (ISBN 978-1607068525) is available in stores and to order with Diamond Code NOV130453.

THE FRONTIER IS A LANDSCAPE OF HORROR IN MANIFEST DESTINY

The real Lewis and Clark expedition they don’t want you to know about!

Every American learns the story: At the start of the 19th century, the vast West of the North American continent is unknown to white men who have colonized the East, so President Thomas Jefferson sends Meriwether Lewis and William Clark to explore the new frontier and report on what they find. MANIFEST DESTINY, the new hit comic book from Robert Kirkman’s Image Comics imprint SKYBOUND, begins with this familiar scenario, but where it — and Lewis and Clark — ends up is somewhere much different from what we learned in history class.

The first volume of MANIFEST DESTINY by Chris Dingess (Being Human) and Matthew Roberts (BATTLE POPE), out in May, chronicles their journey across the uncharted wilderness, where they encounter a most unnatural phenomenon. Aided by their crew of increasingly frightened men, French-Canadian explorer Toussaint Charbonneau and his wife Sacagawea, Lewis and Clark investigate a strange illness that turns living creatures into ferocious, mindless beasts.

MANIFEST DESTINY VOLUME 1 collects the first six issues of the critically-acclaimed multi-sell-out series, and is a must-read for any fan of alternative history and horror-tinged adventure. It will be in comic book stores on May 14 and in book stores on May 27 and is has a special introductory price of just $9.99.

HACK/SLASH RETURNS WITH ALL-NEW STORY ARC

A new enemy, a new partner, and a new monster threat meet Cassie Hack head-on

Your favorite slasher hunter is back! Michael Moreci (HOAX HUNTERS) and Steve Seeley (HOAX HUNTERS) return to the fan-favorite series created by Tim Seeley—HACK/SLASH—with an all new arc in SON OF SAMHAIN.

When a mysterious cult of monsters arises, Cassie is forced to return to the life she thought she'd left behind. Coupled with a new partner and faced with enemies unlike any she has battled before, Cassie must confront the darkness in the world—and in her own life—in new ways. The agents of evil never rest, and unfortunately for them, neither does Cassie Hack.

The newest chapter in Cassie Hack's life will appeal to both long-time HACK/SLASH fans and readers looking for a jumping-on point. “Readers are going to get something that is immediately recognizable as Hack/Slash, yet unique in its own way as well,” said Moreci. “I think Tim told the story he wanted to tell, and that’s why he brought in Steve and I—we’re preserving what he did while building a whole new thing. There’s a lot of great stories to still tell with Cassie Hack and, hopefully, Son of Samhain is just the beginning.”

"All biases aside, I've been a Hack/Slash fan from the beginning. It's a smart book with equal parts horror, comedy, action, sexiness; you name it. We knew continuing that legacy would be a difficult task, considering its history and loyal fan base, but Mike and I are damn proud of what we are doing with the book,” said Steve Seeley. “It's still a sexy, comedic, action-y, horror comic, except it takes two of us to write it now. Mike's all sexy action. I'm comedic horror. This is our sequel… the next step in the evolution of Cassie Hack."

HACK/SLASH: SON OF SAMHAIN #1 arrives in stores on 7/2, and will be available for $3.50. It can be pre-ordered with Diamond Code MAY140592. An incentive variant cover featuring art by Cameron Stewart will also be available to order with Diamond Code MAY140593.

The new series from Rick Remender & Greg Tocchini

Image Comics is pleased to reveal early artwork from Rick Remender (BLACK SCIENCE, DEADLY CLASS) and Greg Tocchini's (Last Days of American Crime, Uncanny X-Force) new series, LOW, to whet the comics industry's appetite. The forthcoming science-fiction fantasy series was announced at Image Expo in January and sparked a buzz of early interest. The official release date for LOW #1 has been set for July 30.

Frequent collaborators Remender and Tocchini dive into an aquatic, sci-fi fantasy, following two teams, from the last remaining cities undersea, as they race to the most unexpected alien world of all—the surface of Earth.

LOW #1 will be available on July 30th for $3.99, but you can pre-order order it now with Diamond Code: MAY140566.
