District Noir by Pandasaurus Games Coming Soon

Pandasaurus has announced a new 2 player set collection game District Noir is coming this summer. Preorders will start on May 19th with retail release planned for July 19th. District Noir was originally published in Japanese by Taikikennai Games in 2016 as Throne and Grail. It was then published in 2019 as Chocolate Factory by Nasza Księgarnia in Polish. The current art and theme was published last year in French by Spiral Éditions. When the time is right, gain control! At the head of the city’s largest criminal organizations, men and women fight to control territories and gain support by trying every means possible to grow their influence. Control of the District Noir, a central and highly contested area, remains the major issue that will make all the difference in dominating the city. There are two paths to victory: win over District Noir's various supports, or directly control the city’s three strategic locations. Before players can claim these, they must be played to the center

Habitats by Board Game Tables.com Coming Soon to Kickstarter

Board Game Tables' next Kickstarter launches next week and will include a reprint of Habitats along with Nine Lives, and Basketboss.

The original game Habitats was published by Cwali in 2016, with two additional expansions released in 2018 and 2021. Cwali also originally published Factory Funner, another BGT's reprint.

About Habitats

Habitats is a tile laying game that nails tile selection, tile placement and scoring perfectly.

Tile Selection

Habitat has a fun interactive market where you drive a jeep around. You have to make tradeoffs between driving directly toward the tile you want or taking the longer path to get a few extra tiles, but risk losing the crucial one to an opponent.

Tile Placement

Every time you place a tile, it seems like it has three different potential uses. Rarely is your choice obvious, and your strategy could have to change in a moment.

Scoring

The in-game scoring criteria changes each game, and the end-game scoring is mostly unrelated to the in-game scoring. You need to balance the short term goals with your long term objectives since you are looking at multiple scoring conditions and competing with other players for the tiles, there are multiple strategies that can lead to victory.

What's New

Board Game Tables is enhancing the original Habitats by adding all the expansions, upgrading components, and adding a player references to the components.

Expansions

The previous version had two expansions; Habitats: XL and Habitats: Double, which added to the game’s depth and replayability with 22 extra tiles and 6 extra goal cards. BGT will be including them in the base game of the new version at no extra cost.

Components

The player jeep is being upgraded to be 15mm thick. BGT is also adding scoring markers to track which tiles are scoring and which you are still working on. Setup will be a bit faster because there’s now a high-quality bag to draw the tiles from. Additionally there will be a separate add-on option to get 92 wood meeples to replace the scoring markers, 78 of them being completely unique.

Rules Reference

BGT has incorporated this key information into the game components so that you don’t have to reference the rulebook. For example:

  •   Turn sequence reminders on your start tile.
  •   A market setup diagram on the Year Tracking board.
  •   Reminders of how many turns to play each round based on player count.
