Wacky Wizard Games Imprint and Three New Games Announced by @wwizardgames

Image
Wise Wizard Games announced the launch of Wacky Wizard Games, a new brand imprint focused on family-friendly, lightweight games. Three games are planned for release in 2024 as part of this new brand imprint: Star Realms Academy, Caution Signs, and Pack the Essentials. If you are interested and attending PAX Unplugged they will have prototypes of Caution Signs and Pack the Essentials. "We are super excited to be adding this new family friendly product line to our catalog. We wanted to maintain the focus of Wise Wizard Games on strategy card and dice games with geeky themes, and have created Wacky Wizard Games as an umbrella for lightweight games with a more whimsical, cute vibe," shared Debbie Moynihan, COO of Wise Wizard Games. Star Realms Academy Forge your own star realms, overloaded with cuteness! A kid friendly but still fun for grown-ups version of the popular Star Realms deckbuilding game for 2 players. A little less math, no reading necessary, but still tons of fun!

Doctor Who: The Eleventh Doctor #3

There’s a devil out on the bayou, or so they say… Something stalking bluesmen through the swamps of Mississippi, offering them talent beyond imagining, worlds at their feet - in exchange for their souls!

When Alice asks the Doctor if they can visit one of her mother’s musical heroes, she’s initially disappointed. Is Jones, a forgettable singer whose talent seems to be that of disappearing in a crowded room, really the colossal talent who brought passion, creativity and meaning to her mother’s life?

And what does he have to do with the nightmarish deals taking place in the dead of night…?

Writer Rob Williams (Ordinary) and artist Simon Fraser (Grindhouse, Nikolai Dante) multiply the chills, in this haunting adventure into the soul of music!

Plus: every issue is packed with extras, including a ‘Titans’ strip!

Cover & Solicit 4/5

  • Regular Cover: Varity Glass
  • Subscription Photo Cover
  • Retail Incentive Simon Fraser

Art, Colors & Inking 3/5

This issue is again drawn by Simon Fraser (2000AD, Judge Dredd) with Gary Caldwell (2000AD) on colors. The are is just okay for me, nothing really spectacular or bad about it.

Layout & Flow 4/5

This issue was pretty easy to follow. We start in 1931 before being being taken back to the present in 2014 then taken to 1962, before finally turning back up in the now of 1931. While that may come out confusing they do an excellent job of the timey whimey.

Story 3/5

The Eleventh Doctor is written by Rob Williams (2000 AD, Daken, Star Wars: Rebellion). The Eleventh Doctor's story continues his adventure with new companion Alice. We find the Doctor and Alice in 1931 Mississippi where the doctor appears to have been mind-controlled. The story then takes us back to 2014 where the Doctor and Alice are talking about her mum's favorite musician John Jones before flying off to 1962 to see his first show. With all the timey whimey going on Williams' does a great job of keeping you in the now. After seeing her mum's idol, Alice is let disappointed. The over the top pop star was a shy meek man. Soon the Doctor and Alice are on their way to 1932 to see another of her mum's favorite artists and a personal friend of the Doctor's. The underwhelming and little noticed John sneaks a ride. Back in 1932 we discover the events that lead up to the Doctors eventual mind-control and the exciting ride begins again.

Verdict - 3.3 (6.5/10) - (Buy Doctor Who) SAVE 10%

I enjoyed the first issue and the second was okay, this one however just left me with a meh feeling. It was an average story by Rob Williams and the art by Simon Fraser was just okay. So far each issue seems to be a stand alone story and maybe that's why it's harder to get into than the Tenth Doctor's book. While this issue left a too be continued line, I'm not sure what part of the story wasn't finished. If your a Whovian definitely pick up this issue, otherwise it might be best to wait for the Trade of the first arc.
