CMON's SDCC Exclusives: A Betrayal to Loyal Fans and Backers?

Image
In recent years, CMON has built a reputation for creating some of the most beloved board games in the industry. Titles like Zombicide , Dune , Cyberpunk 2077 , Cthulhu: Death May Die , Arcadia Quest and Marvel United have garnered a dedicated fanbase, many of whom have supported these games through Kickstarter campaigns and retail purchases. However, CMON's recent decision to make exclusive content for these games available only at San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) has sparked significant outrage among its loyal supporters. The Exclusivity Issue At the heart of the controversy are the exclusive expansions and content for Zombicide: White Death, Cthulhu: Death May Die, and Marvel United. These exclusives include: Zombicide: White Death TMNT Expansion: Featuring comics and Rocksteady and Bebop miniatures for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles expansion. This expansion is only available at SDCC, but was highly requested by backers during the entire campaign. Godzilla Expansion for Cthulhu: D

Cover & Solicit 5/5

This issues cover is of course drawn by interior artist and creator Stjepan Sejic (Aphrodite IX, Witchblade). The cover really doesn't involve the events of the issue, but it does portray the quality of art you can expect from Sejic and shows the fDeath Vigil members and Bernie aka the Reaper.

Art, Colors & Inking 5/5

I mean what can't I say. I have loved Sejic's art in Aphrodite IX. I enjoy the detail and style he uses in Death Vigil. His facial expressions, details, and colors are all spot on and a treat to behold.

Layout & Flow 4/5

This issue expanded on the Death Vigil and it's members. While not a big thing, I was a little annoyed at the constant back and forth between the past and the present. I understand why it was done, Sejic was displaying how our first character Sam and how Clara joined the Death Vigil. Eventually they combine into a beautiful 2-page spread, and the remainder of the issue flows brilliantly.

Story 5/5

The series is written by Sejic, who continues to show his talents as both an artist and a writer. This issue opens with Officer Sam Lewis "The Digger" and Bernie "The Reaper" as she transforms him into one of her Death Knights for the Vigil. We the bounce back and forth between them and the newest recruit Clara Jenkins. It's not really that hard to follow but a little awkward to bounce back and forth. Once Bernie has them fashion their weapons the issue flows in normal time. Sejic then introduces us to the next two members of the Vigil, James and Marlene. Again this issue is mostly story building and Sejic does a great job of character interaction and giving each their own personality. In the final pages Sejic introduces us to "The Pallbearer" and his daughter Mia, and leaves us with a shocker as it seems strong Sigils are being given to novice Necromancers and one seems to have shown up in an unsuspecting place, or should I say person.

Verdict - 4.9 (10/10) (Buy Death Vigil) SAVE 10%

Stjepan Sejic continues to show us he has more talents than just beautiful art in his series Death Vigil. His art continues to amaze and his world building and character development makes this first issue perfect. Sejic adds just the perfect amount of humor and character interaction to get you wanting to know more about them. While I did find the start of the issue a bit awkward, Sejic wrote it as a way to show the interelation of his characters and their joining the Vigil. Sejic is telling an excellent story and the way he presents it makes it highly enjoyable.
