Baltimore Comic-Con's Yearbook Returns in 2014 with Matt Wagner's Grendel!
Saturday Original Art Auction to Benefit Seth Kushner!
BALTIMORE, MARYLAND - August 20, 2014 - The Baltimore Comic-Con's Yearbook returns in 2014, celebrating the creators appearing at the show taking place Friday, September 5th through Sunday, September 7th, 2014. This book of art features interpretations of characters from Matt Wagner's Grendel, sometimes in conjunction with their own creations, in a celebration of creator-owned properties. Beautifully designed by returning guest and Love and Capes creator
Thom Zahler, the book comes in a standard and, for VIP ticketholders, a limited VIP cover edition.
Once again, our popular scavenger hunt returns in 2014! When you buy the book, you'll get a list of our 48 Yearbook contributors and their table numbers. If you succeed in your hunt, you can get your choice of bonus prints!
Grendel first appeared as Matt Wagner's contribution to issue #2 of the 1982 comics anthology Comico Primer. Moving onto a solo black-and-white series with Comico in 1993, the initial run lasted 3 issues before cancellation due to the publisher's financial problems. Wagner then relaunched the character in back-up stories in his Comico title, Mage, before a new standalone title launched by the same publisher in 1986, which transitioned publishers to Dark Horse Comics in 1990. Grendel as a character has existed in different times as different people -- Hunter Rose, Christine Spar, Brian Li Sung, Eppy Thatcher, Orion Assante, and more. The character has gone on to cross over with DC Comics' Batman and, most recently, with Dynamite Entertainment's Grendel vs. The Shadow.

"Baltimore Comic Con is one of my favorite shows of the year!"said Matt Wagner. "The hosts are organized and gracious, the fans are enthusiastic, and the con's focus is still firmly centered on the unique medium that makes all those summer movie blockbusters possible-comic books! I was thrilled and honored when my old friends at BCC asked if they could spotlight GRENDEL in their annual Yearbook. I hope to see many of you at the show-and sign your Yearbooks!"
"Matt is a long-term friend of the Baltimore Comic-Con -- he joined us in our second show way back in 2001, and has been back many times," said Marc Nathan, show promoter for the Baltimore Comic-Con. "Grendel, and the character's many incarnations, is an amazing source for our guests and friends to interpret for the Baltimore Comic-Con's 2014 Yearbook, and the artwork that has come in is beautiful. We're so grateful to Matt for letting us use his character this year."
