Wacky Wizard Games Imprint and Three New Games Announced by @wwizardgames

Image
Wise Wizard Games announced the launch of Wacky Wizard Games, a new brand imprint focused on family-friendly, lightweight games. Three games are planned for release in 2024 as part of this new brand imprint: Star Realms Academy, Caution Signs, and Pack the Essentials. If you are interested and attending PAX Unplugged they will have prototypes of Caution Signs and Pack the Essentials. "We are super excited to be adding this new family friendly product line to our catalog. We wanted to maintain the focus of Wise Wizard Games on strategy card and dice games with geeky themes, and have created Wacky Wizard Games as an umbrella for lightweight games with a more whimsical, cute vibe," shared Debbie Moynihan, COO of Wise Wizard Games. Star Realms Academy Forge your own star realms, overloaded with cuteness! A kid friendly but still fun for grown-ups version of the popular Star Realms deckbuilding game for 2 players. A little less math, no reading necessary, but still tons of fun!

What?

I had my fears about this particular title from the beginning, due to Remenders streak of going to far, but i have to say that the series had been decent up until this point, the narrative was amazing and despite a few problems the general story was new and interesting, but right this issue ruined it for me.

The art is a mixed bag, some panels are OK but then some are completely terrible, some characters look like cardboard cut outs, and it makes the general experience much less enjoyable. I've said it many times that Romita depends to much on his colorist, which is sad really because he can be a really good artist, but here the structures are messed up, and they look bland. If the skeletal tracks of the character are wonky how can the art be any good? this problem is something i noticed when observing the giant monsters, they are supposed to be big and threatening, but they come off as goofy and unintentionally funny. however not to leave this review on a bad note, the action is top notch. It's gory and captain Americas injuries are seriously written all over his face.

Despite the art though, the plot isn't perfect either, the build up was nice, it lead to this point perfectly with an interesting self narrative that got the reader engaged in the ongoing events. Captain america felt like himself again, he was the self sacrificing hero I've come to know, and this was very clearly the main focus of the whole issue, which was great, but the build up, along with everything else was destroyed by one panel.

Wait, Kain Has A Plan?

I was really Looking forward to this, as soon as I saw the the Premise foe issue 17 I already knew there was going to be a Kaine/Wolverine team up, and what can I say? Yost did Not disappoint me, in fact despite some problems this issue was amazing as usual. It's an interesting story.

First things first, the art is Superb here. One of the best things I've noticed is how well the X-Men look, Especially beast and Iceman, Their Designs are amazing and interesting. But how can I review the art without mentioning Wolverine and Scarlet Spider. Wolverines Design is small, threatening and bulky, yet you can feel that he is agile from the way the story is being told. Kaine is a bit different though, he is much taller and lean buff, but it still feels different from Peter Parker , style wise too. The actions scenes are fantastic, it is by all means awesome. What I like about is is the fact that the damage, especially stabs are very well shown, something about it made me go " thats gotta be painful" which is something I rarely do with comics these days. Also the panel where Kaine and Wolverine are fighting and slashing through the League of Assassins is an amazing sight to behold. The art is as I said awesome, max points for it.

As for the story, Yost yet again provides us with an interesting team up, in fact I was getting to the point where I thought that Kaine was just a bit too good for an anti-hero, but it's shown here that if really motivated he won't shy away from killing, he knows he is a monster, and who better to bring that out in him than wolverine right? Speaking of which, while it may seem that Yost slapped fans across the face with the Wolverine dying scene, he makes up for everything in the actual battle. But before I get to that I might as well mention the problems which I had reading this. A lot of the X-Men were kind of acting basically reluctantly to the guy who was trying his best to kill their leader, but here they easily subdue their enemies, however I do understand that some plot devises are necessary to keep the plot going, so I will overlook that problem. also it was stated that Wolverine was healing but it seemed that if Beast didn't punch Wolverine in the chest the heart wouldn't have started pumping. This should not occur as Wolverines healing factor has probably helped him healed a lot worse.

Well What do you Know? Major Improvements.

For the past few months Daniel Way has been butchering one of my utmost favorite characters into pieces. If you haven't heard, these characters in question are Leader and Rulk. Leader went from an awesome interesting villain to a pathetic whelp, while Red-Hulk became an emotional idiot who tells people they are stupid unless they agree with him. While it's too late to save the leader (it's possible but the chances are slim), the series can still improve. When I heard that Charles Soule was becoming the writer, I didn't really know who he was and what his work included, people did say that he was a consistent writer. Again I see reviews of 4/5's but I find myself in disagreement with some users at times

Before I get to the story, I want to say a thing or to about the art. First of all, I despise Dillon's art, that's not to say that the art is bad or anything, but it's more of a preference. I was happy to see that the art had slight improvements as I think that it suits the Punisher's design, which is the best thing about the art. other than that most of the art is hard to go thought, the figures are consistent, but the story telling is mediocre in my opinion, and the action sequences are just plain bad. It feels as two rusty robots trying to hit each other, again this might be because I dislike Dillion's art, so if you enjoyed it good for you. Dillon works best with humans IMO, so not having Rulk and Venom here is a good thing, because he just can't seem to draw bulky big dudes.

As for the story, it focuses mostly on Frank and the aftermath of what is happened previously. I was given hope because as someone who dislikes Frank Castle, this is the first time I've enjoyed reading about him. I won't take points away because I dislike the character as that would be unfair. The self narrative is amazing and Frank feels like himself, and THANK you Soule for finely putting an end to the Elektra/Punisher relationship, seriously, they HAD NO chemistry, and I doubt Elektra would like somebody for killing criminals, ugh. However, as someone who didn't understand the character of Elektra well, I heard some thoughts from someone who does, and after getting a second opinion on this, I had to change the score, because it made so much sense.
