Wacky Wizard Games Imprint and Three New Games Announced by @wwizardgames

Image
Wise Wizard Games announced the launch of Wacky Wizard Games, a new brand imprint focused on family-friendly, lightweight games. Three games are planned for release in 2024 as part of this new brand imprint: Star Realms Academy, Caution Signs, and Pack the Essentials. If you are interested and attending PAX Unplugged they will have prototypes of Caution Signs and Pack the Essentials. "We are super excited to be adding this new family friendly product line to our catalog. We wanted to maintain the focus of Wise Wizard Games on strategy card and dice games with geeky themes, and have created Wacky Wizard Games as an umbrella for lightweight games with a more whimsical, cute vibe," shared Debbie Moynihan, COO of Wise Wizard Games. Star Realms Academy Forge your own star realms, overloaded with cuteness! A kid friendly but still fun for grown-ups version of the popular Star Realms deckbuilding game for 2 players. A little less math, no reading necessary, but still tons of fun!

Cover & Solicit 4/5

This issues cover is drawn by Stjepan Sejic, who also does the interior art and colors. It's a pretty simple cover with Aphrodite IX attacking a member of the cybernetically-enhanced member of the Speros. I do however miss all the cool variant covers we had with past issues.

Art, Colors & Inking 5/5

What can I say some digital painters can some can't. And Sejic definitely can. Some artists either go too heavy, normally in colors but Sejic's art doesn't suffer from that. I have loved the art since the first issue. He draws and paints the imagery so lifelike its sometimes scary. My only fear is can he keep it up. Even in this issue it seemed a little sloppy at times, but nothing too major.

Layout & Flow 5/5

The flows of this issue was pretty good. I did find it a little disjointed from the ending in last issue to the first couple pages, it appears some time, maybe only a few minutes has passed but still. The action sequences are great and really get you into the battle. I usually don't like a lot of internal monologue but even with most of Aphrodite's part being just that I don't find it overwhelming. It's also nice to see that they took the series in a new and fresh approach that is new reader friendly, you don't have to read the original mini-series to understand what's going on (although I do recommend reading it, well worth it).

Story 5/5

The issue was written by Matt Hawkins, who does a great job of telling the story, and conveying emotion of the characters. In this issue we find out what the repercussions will be for Aphrodite killing Marcus' family. We also find the Speros taking their assault to the Gens. The pacing was great and I feel Matt did a great job of getting the entire story he wanted to tell into this issue. Even though most of the issue was the battle, he did a great job with the story telling and continuing the story where he did. I also don't mind the use of religion and belief that is put into the story, and it actually works well. Where one side is religious and believes they are put there for a better purpose, the other uses technology to enhance themselves and extend their lives, almost making themselves like Gods. Matt also did a good job of setting up multiple future story arcs, from where Aphrodite goes from here since she can't stay in Genesis and her handler Burch no longer has control, the team that Mikhail sent to track her down, another Aphrodite XV, and the new Speros Executor Jezebel. It's great to see the combination of present in Cyber Force and future in Aphrodite IX. I can't want for the next issue and actually hope there may be some interaction between Cyber Force and Aphrodite in the future (cross-over anyone?).
