CMON's SDCC Exclusives: A Betrayal to Loyal Fans and Backers?

Image
In recent years, CMON has built a reputation for creating some of the most beloved board games in the industry. Titles like Zombicide , Dune , Cyberpunk 2077 , Cthulhu: Death May Die , Arcadia Quest and Marvel United have garnered a dedicated fanbase, many of whom have supported these games through Kickstarter campaigns and retail purchases. However, CMON's recent decision to make exclusive content for these games available only at San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) has sparked significant outrage among its loyal supporters. The Exclusivity Issue At the heart of the controversy are the exclusive expansions and content for Zombicide: White Death, Cthulhu: Death May Die, and Marvel United. These exclusives include: Zombicide: White Death TMNT Expansion: Featuring comics and Rocksteady and Bebop miniatures for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles expansion. This expansion is only available at SDCC, but was highly requested by backers during the entire campaign. Godzilla Expansion for Cthulhu: D

In The Styx

Solicit

Blue Beetle is stuck in outer space, deep inside Reach Territory. That shouldn’t be a problem, right?

Cover & Solicit 4/5

The cover to this issue is really eye-catching. It shows Blue Beetle's helmet with a reflection of either Jaime Reyes or another scarab host in the eye and in the reflection of the helmet being attacked by The Reach. The only downside is the events don't take place during this issue.

Art, Colors & Inking 3/5

The art for this issue is hit and miss for me. While I like the cartoon style it seems like it flips back and forth from that and a more structured look. The colors are great and the inking plays well.

Layout & Flow 4/5

I enjoyed the flow of the issue. The interaction between Jaime's father and grandmother was great. I also liked how they hinted at something might not be quite right with Jamie's situation and the help he is receiving.

Story 4/5

We find Blue Beetle traveling in space trying to get home. In order to do it they have to upgrade their Lightdrive because they have to travel the long way around because The Reach has put up a no pass zone heading to Earth. It's fun to see the interactions with the bounty hunters in the bar and Jamie when he thinks they are after him, when in truth they want the pilot. Eventually they run into the Scarab's prior host and this time we get a little more information about the statement last issue that the Scarab is unable to harm his own flesh. As the battle ensues Blue Beetle appears to be saved by his new friend or has he? I can't way to see the next issue and Styx. Kinda sad this series coming to an end, even though I got in on it late I have really enjoyed reading it.

Verdict 3.7
