Lost Souls Original Review by Tomlikesfries at Comic Vine

Last issue was, in my opinion, terrible. This one, although still disappointing, shows an improvement. The problem is, this circus arc seems to dumb. I mean, I can't even take the characters seriously in their outfits. Wolverine, a merciless killer, is now a clown and Iceman is spitting fire. Wolverine and the X-men has seen better days. And so they will soon again once this story-line comes to an end.

This comic is mostly focused on Idie and one of the members of the Hellfire Club. The good thing about this is that we could finally see Idie in action, as I don't think we've ever seen her fighting before in this series. It also seemed to me that she wasn't much affected by Broo's death. I mean, they were best friends, but she hardly ever mentions him now. The bad thing is that I just wanted to see some more of the X-men and the students, although Eye Boy did make several appearances. Aaron is a hit or miss. His work on the current series Thor: God of Thunder is wonderful, but he can also disappoint, as he did here or in the last issue.

Wolverine and the X-men #22 is full of action. Most of all, we see Maximilian and Idie fighting off the many brainwashed clowns together. They make a very interesting couple (not that they're dating), mostly because of all the differences. I may be awfully wrong, but I think this story-line has only one purpose. As you'll see at the end of the book, Idie's life will be depending on a choice that Maximilian has to make. That should affect his relationship with the Hellfire Club and, as I said before, I may be wrong, but I think that's the real purpose behind this arc.

To be honest, I'm not really a fan of the artwork here, but it does fit the story. The action is penciled well enough and so are the facial expressions.

Overall, this wasn't such a terrible issue like the previous one, although it wasn't great either. This story arc is sending the series down the hill, although it should pick up its original quality once the circus story-line finally comes to an end. The arc just doesn't make much sense to me.

Wolverine and the X-men #22 gets a 6/10.

What I Thought

See the Review Rating Overview page for more information on how I rate each comic.

Cover & Solicit - 5/5
Art, Colors, & Inking - 4/5
Layout & Flow - 4/5
Story - 4/5
Verdict - 4.1

A lot of people aren't enjoying this run of Wolverine & the X-Men, but for me like last issue I like it. It's nice to see a different take on an X-Book that does't pertain to Cyclops vs. Wolverine. I liked the cover for this issue it's very colorful and has a playful circus feel to it. Definitely worth the read.
