Don't Call Me "Sir" Original Review by Tomlikesfries at Comic Vine

The first issue of Thunderbolts wasn't brilliant. It was more of a letdown, and, unfortunately, this one is even worse. The writing isn't really great and the art is, at best, ugly and lazy. This series does have potential. I mean, Rulk, Venom, Elektra, Punisher and Deadpool in one team? That's probably what I have ever dreamed of, but the plot is boring, not to mention forced. Wade and Elektra run away from a few guards, and when they dive in the water there's some sort of submarine waiting for them?! Come on, that's just dumb. And why the hell was the team formed in first place? It seems that this series is a cash-grabber. Way put up the most bad-ass and awesome characters in a team, but there's no explanation of why it was built up or why someone like Frank Castle would join.

The Gun Goes, Chooom Choom Choom

There is a lot of action here. It's always nice to see Flash cutting off arms and legs, but, honestly, it's not fun at all here. You see, Dillon's art is terrible, so the fighting looks absolutely horrible. This comic would get a least an additional star if there were another better artist.

Overall this was a pretty bad comic. The writing is mediocre and the art is ugly at best. I'd normally drop the series after such a bad issue, but the team is so bad-ass that I refuse to do so. It's sad to see a series with such potential go downhill like that :( .

Thunderbolts #2 gets a 3/10

What I Thought

See the Review Rating Overview page for more information on how I rate each comic.

Cover & Solicit - 4/5
Art, Colors, & Inking - 2/5
Layout & Flow - 3/5
Story - 4/5
Verdict - 3.3

Unlike Tom I'm still really enjoying this issue. I still can't stand the art so we won't even go there. There was also an issue with the coloring, in the start of the issue we see Venom already wearing red and black, yet later we see him change from the white to the red. This is either a continuity error or a slip-up in the editing department. I'm going with slip-up because the scene at the beginning fits the flow and Venom is with Ross later. I was also confused with the phone conversation at the beginning, I'm going to assume it's Ross that is talking to the reporter but when you transition from the phone conversation to Red Hulk you still see monologue boxes not speech bubbles. Otherwise I enjoyed this issue and I think Daniel Way did a good job with bringing in Deadpool's humor. Unlike Uncanny X-Force that dialed it down I hope Thunderbolts keeps it coming. I'm still holding out for this series as I love most of the characters involved, so here's waiting till next issue.
