Matt Smith Leaving Doctor Who

Image
Well we all knew this day was coming especially after the announcement last summer that Karen Gillan was to depart as Amy Pond early in Season 7. It was rumored that Matt was going to be in one more season so we knew The Doctor would also be replaced with his new incarnation within the next season. After the shocking season finale I was almost certain that day had already come. BBC announced today  that Matt Smith is to leave Doctor Who after four incredible years on the hit BBC show. Matt Smith will continue to be the Doctor until the Christmas episode where he will once again regenerate into a new, well Doctor. It was also stated that Jenna-Louise Coleman staying on as his companion Clara. So that means Season 8 will see the a new actor in the role of the Doctor, who is still to be determined as BBC is still looking. You can read BBC's statement after the break;

Guest Review: Punisher: War Zone #2

Image
Punisher: War Zone #2 Review The Pale Skull Original Review by  Johnkmccubbin91  at Comic Vine I have been a Punisher fan for most of my life and Greg Rucka's run on the Punisher has been one of the best I've ever read. It's due to this that I'm a little upset that he won't be writing any more Punisher issues after this series, let alone Punisher not having his own series any more. I've also really enjoyed Marco Checchetto's art throughout the series and was also upset when hearing that he was unable to do the art on this series, but Carmine Di Giandomenico has been a decent substitute. Plot This issue sees Black Widow in search of the Punisher following the Avengers decision to finally deal with the Punisher. Her search included disguising herself in an attempt to retrieve information from Rachel Alves, and travelling round half the world in search of the Punisher.

Iron Man #3 Review Life Saver Original Review by  Johnkmccubbin91  at Comic Vine This series of Iron Man has been very up and down so far, as it started of with a good issue, followed by a terrible second issue, and now with a good third issue. Was the second issue a blip or is this an inconsistency we'll see more often, I hope the former, as I'm a big Iron Man fan and the previous run ( The Invincible Iron Man ) by Matt Fraction and Salvador Larroca was brilliant. Plot This issue sees Iron Man once more in search of another person using the Extremist. This time he's heading to Colombia where a wealthy drug dealer has a version of the Extremis , and has Living Laser, Vibro, and Firebrand protecting it.

Hawkeye #5 Review Ninja Troubles Original Review by  Johnkmccubbin91  at Comic Vine This has been one of the best series Marvel has brought out in the last year, and I've been loving all the different Hawkeye tales. At one point I was considering not getting this series due to budget reasons but I'm very happy I did has it's been much better than I'd ever expected, and Matt Fraction has done some marvelous work on this series. Plot This issue sees the continuation of the last where Hawkeye has to retrieve a tape that has him killing a terrorist on it. Hawkeye is now captured, and is attacked by ninjas whilst Kate Bishop is posing as Madame Masque, who she's got tied up in the bathroom.

Karen Gillan Joins Guardians of the Galaxy

Image
It's been announced by 'The Hollywood Reporter' that Karen Gillan will be joining the cast of Marvel's 'Guardians Of The Galaxy'. Gillan is probably best known as Doctor Who's companion Amy Pond from season five through season seven. Details so far are unknown, but it's confirmed that she will be a yet-unnamed villainess alongside Lee Pace and Michael Rooker. It has been rumored that this film will involve Thanos from the Avengers Movie Easter Egg, leading some to believe Gillan could possibly play the roll of Death. I guess we will have to wait until more details are revealed. The current cast line up includes recent addition, Glenn Close, along with Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana and Dave Bautista. James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy which begins production in late-June.

Guest Review: Earth 2 #7 - Heaven Sent

Image
Earth 2 #7 Review Heaven Sent Original Review by  Tomlikesfries  at Comic Vine Review So far, Earth 2 has been fairly enjoyable, although the last arc, which, as you may know, involved Grundy had a rushed ending. Unfortunately, this issue is quite the opposite. The pacing is very slow, and it serves as a prologue to the upcoming story-line. The plot is, in fact, interesting, although the book still doesn't contain what I'd call a superhero team. In this issue, for example, we got a brief look at Alan Scott and Hawkgirl , although Flash didn't make an appearance, and I was displeased with that as he is certainly, in my opinion, one of the most interesting characters in the series. And we finally see a bit more of the Hawkgirl wonder and who's behind the mask, although it may still leave you with questions. As I mentioned that, I must clarify that this issue may be a bit confusing, and, as I said before, may leave you with more questions than answers. I also

Detective Comics #15 Review How to Control Clayface Original Review by  Johnkmccubbin91  at Comic Vine This was a very poor series, but since John Layman and Jason Fabok became the writing team it has had a new lease of life put into it. They have really made this a decent Batman series again, and I can't thank them enough for that. Plot This issue sees Poison Ivy buried in the ground, and Clayface , her husband is out looking for her and is willing to go through Batman to find her. Also in this issue, Penguin has to leave and help Joker (see the back story of  Batman #14  for what happened), Ogilvy is planning something, and Batman dons a new suit.

Deadpool #3 Review Did Someone Call for a Doctor? Original Review by  Johnkmccubbin91  at Comic Vine I have been a Deadpool fan for a number of years and so far this has been one of the best series' I've ever read. Brian Posehn and Gerry Duggan have done an amazing job on this series and I love how they've taken Deadpool in a different and better direction. Plot This issue sees Deadpool and S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Preston visit Doctor Strange to ask for his help with their Necromancy problem. Strange initially tells them to go away thinking they're not serious but once realizing they are decides to help. Also in this issue Deadpool faces George Washington, Gerald Ford, and Abraham Lincoln together and Richard Nixon after that.

The Amazing Spider-Man #699 Review Trading Places Original Review by  Johnkmccubbin91  at Comic Vine I have been a Spider-Man fan for a number of years now, and Dan Slott's run has been amazing. Although not all the issues he's written lately have been perfect he has made me very excited to see what will happen when issue 700 arrives, and I've not been as excited about a Spider-Man story in years. Guest Review: Batwing #15 - Lost and Found

Image
Batwing #15 Review Lost and Found Original Review by  Batwatch  at Comic Vine Batwing is a book with a whole lot of potential and not a whole lot else going for it right now. Just this week, I started reading the original run of DCNU , “The Kingdom,” and it seems to be a very solid and entertaining story, but this current “A Hard Turn” story arc focusing on Father Lost? It’s just not that good. There is hope, however. The old writer was Judd Winick, but he has moved on to other projects and handed the reigns over to Fabian Nicieza, a writer I very much enjoyed through his excellent work on Red Robin . Does Nicieza manage to find some sense in this current plot-line, or is this arc a lost cause? Plot In this issue, it’s all about the battle as Batwing takes on the psychic cult leader Father Lost.

All-New X-Men #3 Review What the Phoenix Did Original Review by  Johnkmccubbin91  at Comic Vine I have been enjoying this series so far and the way it's flown between the 3 different X-Men teams involved ( Wolverine's team, the original 5 X-Men brought from the past to the present, and Cyclops' team). This series has really put the events of Avengers Vs. X-Men into perspective whilst bringing a brand new series that someone can start and enjoy no mater what their previous X-Men knowledge is. Plot This issue sees how Cyclops' team fully formed and how they broke Emma Frost out of her prison transport . It also shows how Cyclops has lost some of his powers due to the Phoenix Force. It also shows how the Phoenix Force affected other mutants like Magneto who never possessed the Phoenix Force.

Image
Avengers #1 Review Avengers Assemble Original Review by  Johnkmccubbin91  at Comic Vine The newest Avengers series has finally come out and I was interested to see what a new writer would do with the series. I have never been the biggest fan of Jonathan Hickman's work but have always thought of him as a good writer. He did some amazing things during his time on Fantastic Four and although I only liked some of it, the things I did like were brilliant. I also enjoyed what I read of his The Manhattan Projects series for Image and was sad to have to drop the series after 5 issues due to having to lower my comic budget. Plot This issues introduces the Avengers and a new foe called Ex Nihilo. The issues shows how Ex Nihilo wants to evolve Earth into a new era and how he plans on using the Avengers to do that. This issue has the Avengers line up from the current The Avengers film featuring, Captain America , Iron Man , Thor , Hulk , Hawkeye , and Black Widow .

Uncanny Avengers #2 Review Divided Allegiances   Original Review by  Johnkmccubbin91  at Comic Vine I enjoyed the first issue in this series but it's been a longer wait than expected for the second to be released. Plot This issue sees the aftermath of last issue with the Avengers along with Havok clearing up the mess. It appears Apple is at it again. A few months ago they requested an issue of Saga be removed due to a single panel depicting a Gay scene now they have ordered ComiXology to remove more comics from their store. So far ComiXology has removed 56 comic books from its iOS app store this past week because according to Apple the content that didn't meet Apple’s guidelines. More specifically, these comic books contained explicit sexual material, stories involving homosexuality, Satan, and other adult-related themes. A few of the series removed from the store include; Fantagraphic's Angry Youth Comix, Prison Pit, and Omaha the Cat Dancer, Eros' Black Kiss, Chicken Soup for Satan, Image Comics' Sex and Crawl Space: Xxxombies, Asylum Press' Satan Gone Wild, and Dynamite's The Boys vol. 5.
