Guest Review: Superman #14 - H'el on Earth: Build a Parachute on Your Way Down

Image
Superman #14 Review Division in the House of El Original Review by  Johnkmccubbin91  at Comic Vine The first year of this series was terrible, but since the arrival of Scott Lobdell as of issue 0 the series has become what it should have been all along, great. I have been a Superman fan since a child so seeing the main Superman series do so dreadful whilst others like Action Comics doing so well wasn't nice. Nothing against any of the other series, and mainly Action Comics, which Grant Morrison has done a great job on, but the main Superman series should be the best like the main Batman series should be better than the other Batman series. Plot This issue sees Lois Lane visit Clark to try and persuade him to come back to the Daily Planet. Her visit is however cut short by the arrival of Supergirl (who can now speak English), who takes Clark to meet the Kryptonian, H'el , who claims he can restore Krypton.

Dark Horse to Publish 'Star Wars' Comics 'Beyond 2013'

Image
It has been debated as to whether or not Marvel would be getting the rights to the Star Wars comics when Dark Horse's license agreement ran out in 2013. Well it seems we can now put it to rest. ICv2 received word from Dark Horse's Director of Publicity Jeremy Atkins that he had finally received word from Lucusfilm and they will be publishing past 2013. "but all we are able to say at this time is that we are publishing Star Wars beyond 2013." Read their full article here;  ICv2 - Dark Horse to Publish 'Star Wars' Comics 'Beyond 2013'

Joss Whedon Still Using Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch

Image
In an interview with Jimmy Fallon last night the writer/director Joss Whedon confirmed once again that he will be using Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch in Avengers 2 . "There are new characters. I already said that we’re going to have a brother/sister team, the Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver, who were great mainstays of The Avengers when I was reading the comics as a kid." This news comes after it was announced that Fox will also be using Quicksilver . It seems that Marvel is sticking to their guns and are going to go along with their initial plans regardless of Fox. Fox Casts Quicksilver for Days of Future Past

Image
So it appears that Fox is upset about the possibility of any mutant appearing in a non-Fox licensed film. It was announced yesterday via Twitter that Evan Peters will be playing the mutant in the upcoming X-Men Days of Future Past . What this means for Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch for Avengers 2 is unknown. I know that due to licensing Fox owned the rights to the "mutants" but if Marvel/Disney had used them first without reference to the X-Gene then they would just be considered Supers in the Avengers. My personal opinion is Fox knows how popular the characters are and feel that they should get the $$ from them. You can read more on Yahoo! Movie Talk .

Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox - Trailer Debut

Image
DC & WB has released the trailer for Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox . The animated feature is based on the 2011 Flashpoint story-arc which lead up to the current New 52 . This should be an excellent watch for anyone wanting a little back-story on the New 52. You can watch it below; When time travel allows a past wrong to be righted for The Flash and his family, the ripples of the event prove disastrous as a fractured, alternate reality now exists where a Justice League never formed, and even Superman is nowhere to be found. Teaming with a grittier, more violent Dark Knight and Cyborg , Flash races to restore the continuity of his original timeline while this new world is ravaged by a fierce war between Wonder Woman's Amazons and Aquaman’s Atlanteans. With breath taking action and an all-star voice cast, it's a bold, emotional vision that will forever change the landscape of the DC Universe. Available for Pre-order. This item will be r

Star Trek: Into Darkness

Image
So I used my $8.00 Coupon and went to see Star Trek: Into Darkness last night. All I can say is that I was very pleased. Abrams did an excellent job of keeping his universe unique while staying true to the original. I enjoyed the little homages he threw into the movie like Spock's "The needs of the few, outweigh the needs of the many" and Bone's "I'm a doctor not a torpedo specialist." The movie was enjoyable and I'd recommend it to anyone. It was easy to follow even if you are uninformed about the original Khan or the genetically engineered humans from the 90s. One thing I did notice is the reveal of Khan was lackluster, they up played the music and it was supposed to be shocking and suspenseful but for me it wasn't. I also couldn't get over Abrams signature Lens-flare for his futuristic look. Actually I never noticed it in the first movie until somebody pointed it out, now it's hard to overlook. The movie also did a very good job or

Guest Review: The Flash #14 - Gorilla Warfare, Part 2: Last Ape Standing

Image
The Flash #14 Review Get Away From Grodd Original Review by  Johnkmccubbin91  at Comic Vine I have been thoroughly enjoying this series, and it has easily been the best Flash series I have ever read. I've been enjoying how the stories have intertwined into this story and how we've got to learn more about the Speed Force throughout the series. Plot This issue sees Flash running away from Gorilla Grodd who now has the Speed Force going through him, allowing him to keep up with Flash. Meanwhile Iris West is still trapped in the Speed Force and Turbine is aiding Patty Spivot and Captain Frye in finding Barry.

Guest Review: Justice League #14 - The Secret of the Cheetah, Chapter Two; Shazam!, Chapter Seven

Image
Justice League #14 Review The Cheetah's Curse  Original Review by  Johnkmccubbin91  at Comic Vine I have enjoyed this series so far and although it has had it's ups and downs it has overall been a good series. I have loved what Geoff Johns has been doing with the series and although I was slightly disappointed with how he used Darkseid in the opening story he has done a brilliant job since adding some surprises along the way. The other thing I have loved about this series for a good few issues is the Shazam! backup story which was nice to see back after not making an appearance last issue. Plot This issue sees the Justice League trying to cure Superman from Cheetah's attack (which turned him into a Cheetah like creature). Meanwhile Wonder Woman along with the Flash and Aquaman try to capture Cheetah. Shazam! Part 7 In the backup story featuring Shazam! sees Black Adam with Dr. Sivana aiding him tries to understand this world and starts by dealing wit

Guest Review: Iron Man #2 - Believe, 2 of 5: A Gentleman's Wager

Image
Iron Man #2 Review What?  Original Review by  Johnkmccubbin91  at Comic Vine I loved Matt Fraction's run on the character in the last series ( The Invincible Iron Man ) and after Kieron Gillen doing such good work on Journey Into Mystery I expected a good follow up series. So far the first two issues have been very disappointing and if the series doesn't pick up by the end of this story and defiantly the next I will most likely be dropping it. Plot This issue sees Iron Man travel to Symkaria where he hopes to negotiate a deal with Arthur and his Knights to retrieve the Extremist  armor they are in possession of. Arthur and his Knights however have other plans.

Guest Review: Indestructible Hulk #1 - Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. Part 1

Image
Indestructible Hulk #1 Review S.H.I.E.L.D. SMASH!  Original Review by  Johnkmccubbin91  at Comic Vine This is the Marvel NOW! series I have been most looking forward to. There is a number of reasons I have been most looking forward to this series but the main reason is due to the previous Incredible Hulk series being so bad, and wanting to see a good Hulk series once more. Another thing that I was looking forward to was seeing how Mark Waid handled the character as he's turned the Daredevil character into one of Marvel's best new series (at the time) with Daredevil. Plot This issue sees Bruce Banner visiting Maria Hill in a cafe to discuss joining S.H.I.E.L.D. , and how he's unhappy that people like Iron Man and Mr. Fantastic who are no smarter than him will be remembered as geniuses and all he'll be remember for is the Hulk.
